About

Hi, I’m Brittney

I’m a mom, police officer, writer, creator, caregiver, and chronic rabbit-hole explorer who has never been particularly good at staying in one lane.

I’ve spent much of my life trying to understand people—why we do what we do, why some systems work while others fail, and what happens when somebody finally decides, There has to be a better way.

Sometimes that curiosity becomes something I write.

Sometimes it becomes something I build.

Sometimes it sends me down a rabbit hole at an unreasonable hour.

And sometimes—like Care Companion—it starts because my own family needs something that doesn’t exist yet.

The life behind the ideas.

I’m a wife and mom of four, including a medically complex daughter who has changed the way I understand caregiving, advocacy, systems, resilience, and what it means to truly know another person.

I’m also a police officer with a decade in law enforcement, much of it spent working directly with people experiencing homelessness and navigating some of the hardest moments of their lives. That work has taught me that complicated problems rarely have simple answers—and that the space between policy and real life is usually where things get interesting.

Those two worlds may look completely unrelated.

They’re not.

Both have taught me to pay attention to what happens when the systems we’ve built meet the humans they’re supposed to serve.

Different worlds. Same question.

Why do we do it this way—and is there a better one?

That question follows me everywhere.

In caregiving. In policing. In leadership. In relationships. In the things we believe about ourselves. And in the systems we’ve built simply because that’s how we’ve always done it.

Sometimes the answer is that there’s a good reason.

Sometimes there isn’t.

And sometimes the most interesting part is realizing we’ve been asking the wrong question altogether.

That’s where most of my rabbit holes begin.

So what do I do with all these questions?

Sometimes I write about them.

Sometimes they become a book.

Sometimes they become something I build because I got tired of waiting for someone else to make it.

And sometimes they stay a question for a while—because not everything needs an immediate answer.

EverAfterHer is where all of those things get to live together.

Ideas. Stories. Experiments. Things I’m building. And the occasional completely unnecessary rabbit hole.

Come think with me.

I’m not here because I have everything figured out.

I’m here because I think interesting things happen when we’re willing to look closer, question what we’ve inherited, and imagine what might work better.

If you’re curious too, you’re in the right place.
